TYPES OF TAXES

 

There several taxes that affect property ownership, some of them are paid once because of the ownership transaction (when the purchase when the inheritance or the gift…) and other are paid annually.

 

Some of the taxes about property are:

 

Taxes referred to property transaction:

  • Capital Gain Tax (Plusvalía)
  • Inheritance Succession and Inheritance Tax (Impuesto de sucesiones)
  • Spanish Non-residents Tax (Retención 3% a cuenta del impuesto de no residentes)
  • Transfer tax on resale homes – Impuesto de Transmisiones Patrimoniales (ITP) or Value-added tax – Impuesto del Valor Añadido (VAT)

 

Annual taxes:

  • Municipal Property Tax, that. is collected directly by local government – I.B.I. Impuesto de Bienes Inmuebles.
  • Income Tax for Expatriates living in Spain (the return of the tax has to be done by the responsible) – Impuesto de la Renta de las Personas Físicas (IRPF).
  • Income tax for non-residents who do not rent out their property and also come tax for non-residents who rent out their property (the return of the tax has to be done by the responsable, in case of owner that do not rent their Property the return tax is done annually but in case the owner rents the house the return will be done quarterly) – Impuesto de la Renta de No Residentes (IRNR)
  • Wealth tax for non-residents (Patrimonio) (the return of the tax has to be done by the responsible) – Impuesto sobre el Patrimonio
